The Brahma Chicken is a large and majestic breed, originally developed in the United States from birds with Asian ancestry. Often referred to as the “King of Chickens,” Brahmas are admired for their impressive size, feathered legs, and exceptionally calm and docile nature. Despite their stature, they are gentle birds that fit well into mixed flocks and are popular with both experienced keepers and beginners.
Brahmas are heavy soft-feathered chickens with broad bodies, feathered shanks and feet, and a proud upright stance. Their thick plumage gives them a striking appearance while also making them particularly hardy during colder weather. Known for their quiet and friendly temperament, Brahmas are easy to handle and are often considered one of the best large breeds for families and backyard flocks.
Our Brahma hens are available in two beautiful colour varieties. Gold Partridge Brahmas display rich golden hackles with intricate black pencilling across the body, creating a bold and traditional patterned appearance. Blue Partridge Brahmas offer a softer variation, replacing the black markings with slate-blue tones, giving the birds a unique and elegant finish while maintaining the classic partridge pattern.
All of our chickens are hens at point of lay, meaning they are close to starting egg production. Brahmas typically lay medium to large light brown eggs and are known for being reliable layers, particularly during the winter months when many other breeds slow down. Their calm nature and attractive appearance make them highly valued as both productive and ornamental birds.
At Ridgeway Poultry we specialise in carefully selected, high-quality birds, with a particular focus on producing healthy, well-socialised chickens in a variety of colours. Each bird is raised with care to ensure it arrives in excellent condition and ready to thrive in its new environment.
Chickens require secure housing, access to a suitable run or free-range space, and a balanced diet of quality layers feed, grit, and fresh water. Brahmas are hardy birds but, due to their feathered legs and feet, they benefit from clean, dry ground conditions to help keep their feathering in the best possible condition.
