The Swedish Flower Chicken is a rare and distinctive landrace breed originating from Sweden, where it developed naturally over centuries on small rural farms. Known for their exceptional hardiness, colourful plumage, and excellent foraging ability, Swedish Flower Chickens have become increasingly popular with poultry keepers looking for attractive, productive, and characterful birds.
Swedish Flower Chickens are medium-sized birds with a strong and active build, suited to both free-range environments and spacious backyard flocks. They are well known for their friendly, alert, and inquisitive nature, often becoming tame with regular handling. As a traditional landrace breed, they are naturally robust and adaptable, coping well in a range of weather conditions.
One of the most striking features of the breed is its extraordinary feather colouring. No two birds are exactly alike, with each chicken developing its own unique combination of black, red, gold, blue, white, and speckled markings. The breed takes its name from the white-tipped feathering, often described as a “flowered” pattern, which gives the birds their beautiful ornamental appearance.
Our Swedish Flower Chickens are sold as chicks and are supplied unsexed unless otherwise stated. As they mature, they typically develop into reliable layers of cream to lightly tinted eggs, while also retaining excellent ornamental and free-ranging qualities. Their active personalities and varied appearance make them a standout addition to any flock.

Chicks require warm, secure brooding accommodation with access to suitable chick crumb feed and fresh clean water at all times. As they grow, they will need gradually increasing space, secure housing, and protection from predators and harsh weather conditions to ensure healthy development.
